Faro Año Nuevo

The Faro Año Nuevo, also known as Puesto Isla Observatorio, is a historic lighthouse located on the island of Año Nuevo, off the coast of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.

History

• Construction began in 1902 and was completed by 1905.

Architecture

The tower stands at a height of 66 meters (217 feet) above sea level, with a focal height of approximately 90 meters (295 feet).

• The lighthouse is constructed from limestone and granite, with a distinctive octagonal shape.

Light Characteristics

The Faro Año Nuevo emits a white light with a range of 12 nautical miles (22 kilometers) and a period of 32 seconds.

• The light pattern consists of three flashes, spaced at intervals of 8 seconds, followed by two periods of silence, and then another set of three flashes.

Current Status

The lighthouse is no longer active and has been automated since its decommissioning.

Today, it serves as a museum and observation post, offering visitors a glimpse into the region's rich maritime history.
