History
The Port Melbourne Rear Light was constructed in 1871 as part of the Victorian Government's lighthouse system to aid navigation at the entrance to Port Phillip Bay. The light played a crucial role in guiding mariners into the bay and out to sea.

The tower stands at a height of 70 metres (230 feet) above sea level, with a focal height of approximately 100 metres (330 feet). The lighthouse is constructed from limestone and features a distinctive octagonal shape. The light source uses an Iso character, indicating that it emits a beam of light in the direction indicated by the sector end.
