Cape Mudge Lighthouse

Located on Quadra Island, off the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

History

Built in 1898, the original lighthouse was a wooden, two-storey building topped with a lantern on the roof.

It later served as lighthouse assistant keeper's residence after the current lighthouse opened in 1916 and was demolished after 1949.

The lighthouse played a significant role in the British Columbia Shore Station Oceanographic Program from 1936 to 1985, collecting coastal water temperature and salinity measurements for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

The Cape Mudge Lighthouse features a distinctive design with three white light sources, each with a focal height of 18 metres.

The lighthouse emits a Fl (first order) light pattern with a range of 13 nautical miles in each direction.

The light characteristics also include a red light source with the same range.
