The Prince Edward Point Lighthouse is situated at Traverse Lane, in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada.

The lighthouse was constructed in 1858 by the Canadian government to serve as a navigational aid for mariners. It has been an important aid to navigation on Lake Ontario ever since its construction.

Architecture and Construction Materials

The lighthouse is built of red sandstone with a cast-iron framework. The tower stands at a height of approximately 30 meters (98 feet) above the lake's surface, while the focal plane is about 50 meters (164 feet) above sea level.

Light Characteristics

The light emits a fixed white beam that can be seen from a distance of up to 20 nautical miles. The light's pattern is a steady flash every 10 seconds.

The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since its modernization in the late 1990s.

Heritage Status

The Prince Edward Point Lighthouse is listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places and is also designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. It was added to this list in 1981 due to its significant role in maritime history.
