The Currie Lighthouse was constructed in 1902 to replace an earlier wooden tower that had been destroyed by a storm. The new lighthouse was designed by architect William S. Anderson and built using local stone and concrete. Initially, the light was lit manually by a keeper, but it was later automated in the mid-20th century.
