Construction and History

The Phare de l'Île-Brion was built in 1853 by the British colonial administration to aid navigation for ships traveling through the Magdalen Islands. The original lighthouse structure was constructed with stone and had a tower height of approximately 12 meters (39 feet). In 1920, the Canadian government took over the management of the lighthouse, which has been an essential aid for mariners ever since.
