The Svjetionik Rt Crna Punta lighthouse was built in 1873 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire's coastal program to improve safety along the Adriatic shipping lane. It has remained in maritime service ever since, passing into Yugoslav administration after World War I and then into the care of the Republic of Croatia in 1991.
