The lighthouse was constructed in 1934 during the Showa period (1926-1989). Its official name is Sanuki Sanzai Lighthouse, which translates to "Sanuki Sanzai Lighthouse" or "Mitoyo Lighthouse".

The lighthouse features a distinctive octagonal shape, with a height of approximately 18 meters above sea level. Its architectural style is characteristic of Japanese lighthouses from the early 20th century.

The lighthouse emits a light beam that can be seen for up to 25 kilometers. The light characteristic pattern is Fl(3)W.15s, indicating three flashes every 15 seconds.

Visitors can access the lighthouse via a walking trail from Mitoyo city. The hike takes approximately 30 minutes and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Although it is no longer operational for navigation purposes, the lighthouse has been preserved as a historical monument.
