Construction and History
The Farol do Recife was constructed between 1865 and 1871 under the supervision of the Brazilian government. Its purpose was to guide mariners through the complex network of waterways surrounding the city of Recife. The lighthouse is believed to have been designed by French architect Henri-Édouard Prosper Favre.

The Farol do Recife's architecture is characterized by a white octagonal masonry tower with a square concrete base and a red band. Standing at 20 meters in height, the structure is topped with a lantern room that contains the light source.
