Its sturdy construction is characterized by a traditional lighthouse style, featuring a cylindrical tower with a lantern room at the top. The Gabarus Lighthouse was originally operated manually by a keeper until it was automated in the mid-20th century. Its light characteristic remains unchanged: Fl(3)W.15s, indicating a flashing white light every 15 seconds.
