Hellisøy fyr was constructed between 1877 and 1881 during the construction era of the late 1800s. The architect responsible for its design is unknown, but it's believed to be an example of traditional Norwegian lighthouse architecture.

The structure is built using local materials, including stone and wood. It stands at an impressive height of 32 meters.

Light and Navigation

Originally, the lighthouse featured a third-order Fresnel lens that emitted a light beam with a range of approximately 15 nautical miles (28 km). The characteristic pattern was Fl(3)W.15s, meaning it flashed three times every 15 seconds. Unfortunately, the original light source is no longer in operation.

Visitors can access the lighthouse, but please note that there are no public facilities on-site. The nearest town is Fedje, which offers basic amenities.
