Construction and History

The North Manitou Shoal Light Station was constructed in 1934 during the Great Depression era, replacing an earlier structure built in 1858. The current tower stands three stories tall, with a square base measuring 13 feet on each side, increasing to 12.5 feet on the third floor.

The building's heritage is marked by the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) since September 6, 2005.

Light and Navigation

The light station emits a red beacon displaying a flash characteristic of Fl (3) W.15s, with a range of 14 nautical miles. The fog signal generation is automatic and part of the U.S. Coast Guard's seamark program.
