The Semarang Lighthouse stands in the heart of Semarang, Indonesia's third-largest city, approximately 10 kilometers west of the city center.
Construction and History
Built in 1897, the Semarang Lighthouse was designed by Dutch architect J.W.A. van der Meyden to guide ships safely into the port of Semarang. During World War II, the lighthouse was used by Allied forces to guide aircraft and naval vessels. In 1953, the Indonesian government declared the lighthouse a national cultural heritage site.

The lighthouse features a unique blend of Dutch colonial and Indonesian architectural styles, with a white limestone tower having a pyramidal shape, topped with a red-and-white striped lantern room.
