Construction and History

Built in 1853, the Andratx Lighthouse was constructed to address concerns of shipwrecks and maritime accidents that plagued the region's coastline. Initially, it used a light source powered by a kerosene lamp, but in 1925, it was upgraded to an electric-powered beacon.

Architecture and Materials

The tower showcases a unique blend of Mediterranean Revival and Art Nouveau styles, designed by prominent architect Gabriel Roca i Garcías. The tower stands at a height of approximately 6 meters (20 feet) above sea level, with a focal plane height of around 24 meters (79 feet).

As part of the Spanish Lighthouse Service, the Andratx Lighthouse is still operational today, serving as an important navigation aid for ships and boats in the area. Its light characteristic is Fl (3) W 15s, indicating a flashing red light with a three-second flash period, followed by 15 seconds of darkness.
