Initially built to guide vessels through Aransas Pass, the Lydia Ann Lighthouse was constructed in 1852. Its architecture is an excellent example of a mid-19th-century lighthouse. The structure operated under manual control until it was automated in 1926.

The Lydia Ann Lighthouse features a distinctive tower with a square base and a tapered upper portion, constructed from brick. Standing at an impressive height of approximately 65 feet (20 meters) above sea level, the focal height is about 45 feet (14 meters). The original optic was replaced in the 1930s with a modern Fresnel lens.

Light and Navigation

Initially operating under manual control, the lighthouse required constant attendance by a keeper. In 1926, it was automated to allow for greater efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements. Although no longer an active aid to navigation, the Lydia Ann Lighthouse remains an important historical landmark and tourist attraction.
