The Racine Harbor Lighthouse and Life Saving Station was constructed in 1866 to serve as both a beacon for mariners and a life-saving station. The original lighthouse stood at 56 feet (17 meters) tall, with a focal plane height of 54 feet (16.5 meters). It was designed by architect Henry Hobson Richardson.
Architecture and Materials
The original lighthouse featured a distinctive red-brick tower with a white lantern room. In 1975, the original lighthouse was decommissioned and replaced with a new structure, which stands at an impressive 80 feet (24 meters) tall. The current lighthouse is a two-story brick building with a distinctive red-and-white striped tower.
