Fornæs Fyr is situated at Fornæsvej in Norddjurs Municipality, Denmark.

History

Construction of Fornæs Fyr began in 1839 and was completed shortly after. The lighthouse has been an important aid to navigation for mariners in the Øresund Strait.

Architecture

Fornæs Fyr is a 27-meter-tall (89 ft) tower built from limestone and granite, with a distinctive octagonal shape. The light source is reportedly a first-order Fresnel lens.

Light Characteristics

The lighthouse emits a fixed red light, visible up to 17 nautical miles (31 km). The light pattern is reported to be a single flash every 10 seconds.

Current Status

Fornæs Fyr remains an active aid to navigation. However, it has been automated since its installation.

Heritage Status

The lighthouse was designated as a protected monument in Denmark in 1979.
