Tourelle de la Moutte (Cardinale Est)

The Tourelle de la Moutte (Cardinale Est) is situated on the French Riviera, specifically at the town of Saint-Tropez in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The lighthouse is located along the Sentier du Littoral, a scenic coastal path that offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.

History

The Tourelle de la Moutte was constructed in 1858 to serve as a navigational aid for ships entering the port of Saint-Tropez. Its strategic location allowed it to guide vessels safely into the harbor.

The lighthouse stands at a height of approximately 30 meters (98 feet) above sea level, with a focal height of around 50 meters (164 feet). The tower is constructed from limestone and features a distinctive octagonal shape. The structure was designed by French architect Jean-Baptiste Vallon.

The Tourelle de la Moutte features a fixed light source that emits a white beam, visible up to 20 nautical miles (37 kilometers) at sea. The light pattern is reported to be a single flash every two minutes.
