Beypore Lighthouse

The Beypore Lighthouse is a notable lighthouse located on the south shore of the Chaliyam River, at Feroke, Kozhikode, India.

History

• The six-sided tower was constructed in 1977 and began functioning on November 21st of that year. The light source is a metal halide lamp.

The lighthouse stands at a height of 30.48 metres (100.0 ft) above the sea level. The tower is painted with red and white bands, giving it a distinctive appearance.

• The Beypore Lighthouse emits a Fl (first order) light, visible over a range of 24 nautical miles. The light has a period of 15 seconds and is coloured white.

Current Status

The lighthouse was automated and currently operates under the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. It is no longer an active aid to navigation.
