History

• A castle has stood on this site since at least the 3rd century. The current iteration of the castle was built in 1223. An early lighthouse was established here in the 17th century by Robert Reading.
• The area is notable for being the nearest point to where the RMS Lusitania was sunk in 1915, approximately 18 kilometres from the site of the sinking.
