Kāingaroa Automatic Light

The Kāingaroa Automatic Light is situated on Kaiwhata Road, at the southern end of Skirmish Bay, in the Chatham Islands, New Zealand.

History

The lighthouse was constructed in 1950. It has been owned by Maritime New Zealand since its establishment.

Architecture and Construction Materials

The Kāingaroa Automatic Light is a tower-shaped structure made of aluminium. Its height is 60 meters, with a focal height of approximately the same value.

Light Characteristics

• The lighthouse emits a white light with a range of 9 nautical miles.
• The light's pattern consists of three flashes, separated by intervals of 1 second and 15 seconds.

The Kāingaroa Automatic Light is currently an active aid to navigation, operated automatically.
