Lighthouse Reef

Lighthouse Reef is located approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi) southeast of Belize City, in the Caribbean Sea. The reef forms an oblong shape, approximately 35 kilometres (22 mi) long from north to south, and about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) wide. It can be accessed by boat or plane.

History

The Reef was constructed in 1882.

Architecture

The Reef is a lighthouse with a tower height of 5 metres (16 ft). The focal height is also 5 metres (16 ft). The light characteristics include a pattern of Fl, a range of 4 nautical miles, and an automatic period of 1.5 minutes.

Current Status

Lighthouse Reef is currently owned by Maritime New Zealand. It is reportedly an active aid to navigation.
