The Taiaroa Head Lighthouse is situated on Tarewai Road, at the end of the Otago Peninsula in New Zealand.
It lies within the city limits of Dunedin, near the nearest settlement of Otakou, three kilometres to the south.
History
The lighthouse was built in 1864 and has been an important aid to navigation for mariners entering the Otago Harbour ever since its construction.

The Taiaroa Head Lighthouse is a tall structure, standing at a height of 60 metres above sea level.
Its focal height is 75 metres, providing a clear view of the surrounding waters.
The lighthouse features a distinctive white light with three distinct patterns: one beam directed northwards, and two beams directed east and west.

The Taiaroa Head Lighthouse emits a powerful beam that can be seen for up to 18 nautical miles in each direction.
The light is visible from a distance of over 30 kilometres on clear nights.

The Taiaroa Head Lighthouse is listed as a heritage site in New Zealand, with a unique designation number of 2220.

- In 1919, a colony of over 100 northern royal albatrosses established itself on the cape, making it the only such colony on an inhabited mainland.
