Runde Fyr

The Runde Fyr is situated on Goksøyrvegen in Herøy, Norway. The lighthouse can be accessed via a short walk from the nearby parking area.

History

The Runde Fyr was constructed in 1869 to serve as a navigational aid for mariners navigating the surrounding waters. Its construction marked an important milestone in the development of maritime safety in Norway.

The lighthouse stands at a height of 49.5 meters, with a focal height of approximately 98 meters. The tower is constructed from local granite and features a distinctive octagonal shape. The light source uses a combination of white, green, red, and yellow optics to provide a clear visual warning to mariners.

The Runde Fyr emits a distinctive sequence of lights, with each beam rotating 360 degrees every six minutes. The light can be seen from approximately 19 nautical miles in the north, 15.5 nautical miles in the east, and 16 nautical miles in the south.

The Runde Fyr remains an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since its construction. The lighthouse is no longer used as a primary navigational aid but continues to serve as a visible warning to mariners.
