History

  • The Eulalia Lighthouse was constructed in 1885 to serve as a navigational aid for ships traversing the Yellow Sea. The tower has undergone several renovations and restorations over the years, with the most recent being a major restoration project completed in 2010.

Architecture

The lighthouse stands at an impressive height of 34 meters (112 feet) above sea level, with its focal point reaching an altitude of 50 meters (164 feet). The tower is constructed from stone and features a distinctive octagonal shape. The original structure was designed by Korean architect Lee Jae-wook.

Light Characteristics

The Eulalia Lighthouse emits a fixed red light, visible to ships at a range of approximately 20 nautical miles. The light's pattern is a steady flash every 10 seconds.

Current Status

The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since the 1990s. In recent years, the tower has undergone significant restoration work and is now operated by the Korean Coast Guard as a museum and tourist attraction.
