Boveteskär Lighthouse

The Boveteskär lighthouse is situated on an island in Lake Roslagen, Sweden, approximately 15 kilometers north of Norrtälje kommun. The location can be accessed by boat or via the nearby coastal road.

History

The Boveteskär lighthouse was built in 1905 to serve as a navigational aid for mariners navigating the waters of Lake Roslagen. The lighthouse has undergone several renovations and restorations over the years, with the most recent being in 2010.

Architecture

The Boveteskär lighthouse is a traditional Swedish lighthouse design, featuring a cylindrical tower with a distinctive red-and-white striped pattern. The lighthouse stands at a height of approximately 25 meters (82 feet) above sea level, while its focal height is around 30 meters (98 feet). The light source consists of six different colored lights, each rotating every 6 minutes.

Current Status

The Boveteskär lighthouse is currently an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since the 1990s. Visitors can still access the lighthouse and climb to the top for panoramic views of Lake Roslagen.
