The Tater Du Lighthouse is Cornwall's most recently built lighthouse, constructed to address concerns following the tragic loss of the Spanish coaster Juan Ferrer on 23 October 1963.

History

  • In response to the tragedy, the Newlyn and Mousehole Fishermen's Association urged Trinity House to build a lighthouse in the area. The construction of the Tater Du Lighthouse was completed in 1965, with the first light being turned on that year.

Architecture

The lighthouse is built using concrete blocks and features a distinctive design. Its tower height is 34 meters, while its focal height is 23 meters. The lighthouse emits a white light with a range of 23 nautical miles and a period of 15 seconds. It is equipped with a rotating light source that can be seen from a distance.
