History

The lighthouse was constructed in 1908 as part of a series of harbor lights to aid navigation in the Belmont Harbor. It has been an important aid to mariners for over a century.

The tower is made of stone and stands at a height of approximately 30 meters (98 feet). The focal height, or the height above the sea level from which light can be seen at its maximum range, is believed to be around 25 meters (82 feet).

Light Characteristics

The lighthouse emits a fixed white beam that can be seen up to 10 nautical miles away.

Current Status

The Belmont Harbor Inner Light remains an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since the mid-20th century. It is no longer used as a primary navigational aid but continues to serve as a backup in case of emergencies.

The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered a notable example of early 20th-century lighthouse design.
