History

  • The Copper Harbor Light was built in 1848 and has been guiding mariners through the treacherous waters of Lake Superior ever since. It played a crucial role in the early maritime history of the region, serving as a vital aid to navigation for ships traversing the Great Lakes.

Architecture

The lighthouse stands at a height of approximately 50 feet (15 meters) above the waterline, with a focal height of around 95 feet (29 meters). It is constructed from local limestone and features a distinctive octagonal tower. Light Characteristics

The Copper Harbor Light emits a fixed white light, visible from up to 20 nautical miles away. Its original Fresnel lens is no longer in use, having been replaced by modern automation systems.
