History

  • Built in 1873, the Front Range Light was one of two range lights constructed to aid navigation into Newburyport's harbor. The light was originally situated at Bayley's Wharf and played a critical role in guiding mariners safely into the harbor.
  • In 1964, the light was relocated to its current site on the grounds of the Merrimack River Coast Guard Station.

The light's architectural style is characteristic of late 19th-century lighthouses.
