History

The Los Angeles Light was constructed in 1913 as part of the Los Angeles Harbor Light Station. It has been an important aid to navigation for mariners entering and exiting the Los Angeles Harbor ever since its completion.

The lighthouse stands at a height of 22.2 meters (72 feet) above sea level, with a focal height of 61.5 meters (202 feet). The tower is constructed from reinforced concrete and features a distinctive white color scheme. The light itself emits a green beam with a range of 19 nautical miles.

Light Characteristics

The Los Angeles Light uses a rotating lens to produce its distinctive Fl (first-order) signal, visible in all directions. The light's period is 15 seconds, and it operates continuously. Additionally, the lighthouse features a fog signal that emits a horn-like sound every 30 seconds.

The Los Angeles Light remains an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since its construction. It continues to serve as a vital reference point for mariners navigating the Los Angeles Harbor.
