The Western Channel Pile Light, also known as the West Wedding Cake due to its distinctive shape, is an active pile lighthouse located on Sydney Harbour, New South Wales, Australia.

History

The Western Channel Pile Light was built in 1908. It marks the western end of the Sow and Pigs Reef.

Architecture

The tower height of the Western Channel Pile Light is approximately 25 metres (82 feet). The focal height is around 24 metres (79 feet). The lighthouse has a distinctive shape, earning it the nickname "West Wedding Cake". It is constructed from white concrete with a square base and a tapering tower. The light characteristics include a red colour, a range of 5 nautical miles, and a period of 3 seconds.

Current Status

The Western Channel Pile Light was reconstructed and restored to operation in December 2008, after collapsing in December 2006.

Location and Accessibility

The lighthouse is located on Georges Head, Mosman, off Sydney Harbour. It can be accessed via the Middle and Georges Head Walking Track.
