History

  • Built in 1849, the East Point Light House is the second oldest lighthouse in New Jersey, with only the Sandy Hook Light being older. The light was inactive from 1941 and nearly destroyed by fire in 1971. It was reinstated by the United States Coast Guard in 1980, and exterior restoration was completed in 1999.

The focal height of the light is believed to be around 80 meters (262 feet). The lighthouse features a distinctive red color and has a characteristic F-shaped lantern room.
