Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse
The Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse is one of the most iconic and historic lighthouses in Hong Kong, serving as a beacon for mariners since 1875.
History
- Construction on the lighthouse began in 1875, named after Major-General Sir George Charles d'Aguilar. The light was commissioned to aid navigation at Cape D'Aguilar, marking the entrance to Victoria Harbour.
- In 1896, the Waglan Island Lighthouse began operation, rendering the Cape D'Aguilar light obsolete.
- The lighthouse was then transferred to the Green Island Lighthouse in 1905, replacing an earlier fourth order Fresnel light.
- After a period of disuse, the lighthouse was reinstated into service in 1975 with an automated system.

The existing structure stands at 9.7 metres (32 ft) tall and is built using traditional materials. The architectural style is characteristic of early 20th-century Hong Kong lighthouses.
