Location and Accessibility

The Svjetionik Otočić Glavat lighthouse is situated on the island of Glavat, which is part of the Lastovo archipelago in Croatia. The location can be accessed by boat or ferry from the town of Lastovo.

History

Construction of the lighthouse began in 1884 and was completed in the same year. It has been an important aid to navigation for mariners in the Adriatic Sea ever since its construction.

Architecture and Materials

The Svjetionik Otočić Glavat is a traditional stone lighthouse with a characteristic octagonal tower. The tower stands at a height of 25 meters (82 feet) above sea level, while the focal height is 35 meters (115 feet). The light source is reportedly an oil-fired lamp.

Light Characteristics

The Svjetionik Otočić Glavat emits a fixed white light with a range of approximately 20 nautical miles. The light pattern is believed to be a rotating beam, although this information may not be confirmed.

Current Status

The lighthouse remains active and is operated by Plovput, the Croatian maritime authority. It has been automated since its modernization in recent years.

Heritage Status

The Svjetionik Otočić Glavat was designated as a protected cultural monument in 2007.
