The Garðskagaviti lighthouse is situated on Garðskaði, the easternmost tip of Iceland's Southern Peninsula. The location can be found at 64.08198956666665° N, -22.689934341666667° W.
History
The first lighthouse was built in 1897, but it was replaced by a newer structure in 1944. This second lighthouse has been the current home of the Heritage and Maritime Museum since 1995.
Architecture
The Garðskagaviti lighthouse is constructed from concrete and stands at a height of 23 meters (75 feet). The focal height of the light tower is 28 meters (92 feet), allowing it to emit a powerful beam of light out to sea. The light characteristics include four distinct patterns, each with its own unique color and range: green with a range of 15 nautical miles, red with a range of 15 nautical miles, white with a range of 15 nautical miles, and white with a range of 31 nautical miles.

The Garðskagaviti lighthouse is currently an active aid to navigation. However, it has been automated since its construction in 1944.
