Lundey Lighthouse
The Lundey lighthouse is situated on Lundey Island, located in Skjálfandi bay, approximately 8.3 kilometres (5.2 miles) from Húsavík, in the Northeastern Region of Iceland.
History
- Lundey Island, also known as "Puffin Island" due to its large population of Atlantic Puffins, has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. The lighthouse was built to serve as a navigational aid for mariners in the Skjálfandi bay.
Architecture
The Lundey lighthouse is a small, cylindrical structure with a height of 46 metres (151 ft) above sea level and a focal height of 34 metres (112 ft). It features a distinctive white light that emits a sequence of flashes every 5 seconds. The tower's architecture is typical of early 20th-century Icelandic lighthouses.
