History

Construction of the Faro de San Juan de Nieva began in 1863 and was completed shortly after. The lighthouse played an important role in maritime navigation, serving as a beacon for ships entering the port of Avilés.

Architecture

The Faro de San Juan de Nieva is a 14-meter-tall (46 ft) structure, with a focal height of approximately 40 meters (131 ft). The lighthouse features a distinctive red-and-white striped pattern, which can be seen from a distance. The light source emits two distinct beams: one red and one white, each with a range of 12 and 15 nautical miles, respectively.
