History

  • The lighthouse stood at a height of approximately 65 feet (20 meters) above sea level, with its focal height reaching around 95 feet (29 meters).

Architecture

The original light source was reportedly a Fresnel lens, which was later relocated to Ferndale, California in 1948.

Light Characteristics

  • Prior to its relocation, the light emitted a characteristic pattern of red and white flashes every 20 seconds, with a range of approximately 21 miles (34 kilometers).

Current Status

No longer an active lighthouse, the structure has been repurposed as a tourist attraction and museum.

The Cape Mendocino Light was situated on Lower Pacific Drive in Shelter Cove, California. Visitors can access the site via this road, which is open to the public.

  • In 1998, the former lighthouse was relocated from its original location at Cape Mendocino to Shelter Cove near Point Delgada.
