The Robbins Reef Light is situated on Constable Hook in Bayonne, Hudson County, New Jersey, United States, along the west side of Main Channel, Upper New York Bay.

The light station can be accessed via Port Terminal Boulevard.

History

  • The tower and integral keepers quarters were built in 1883. This replaced an octagonal granite tower constructed in 1839.
  • After her husband John died in 1890, Keeper Kate Walker (1848-1931) maintained the lighthouse until 1919.
  • The U.S. Coast Guard owned and operated the light station until the 2000s.

The light emits a green flash at a range of 7 nautical miles and has a period of 6 minutes.

Current Status

The U.S. Coast Guard no longer owns and operates the light station.

However, the Robbins Reef Light Station is currently managed by The Noble Maritime Collection, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving maritime history.

Heritage Status

The Robbins Reef Light was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2006, with reference number NRHP-06000631.

It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places under criteria (A) and (C).
