History

Construction of the lighthouse began in 1858 and was completed in 1860. It has been an important aid to navigation for mariners in the region.

Architecture

The tower stands at a height of 12 meters (39 feet) above sea level, with a focal height of approximately 24 meters (79 feet). The lighthouse is built using local granite and features a distinctive octagonal shape. It was designed by architect John B. Smith.

Light Characteristics

The Robinson Point Lighthouse emits a fixed white light, visible from a range of up to 20 nautical miles. The light pattern is a steady flash every 10 seconds.

Current Status

The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since the 1990s.

Location and Accessibility

The lighthouse can be accessed via Lighthouse Road on Isle au Haut. Visitors must take a ferry from nearby Stonington or Mount Desert Island to reach the island.

Heritage Status

The Robinson Point Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
