The Hải Đăng Đảo Trần is a historic lighthouse located on Đảo Trần, off the coast of Cô Tô Island in Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam.

History

• The construction of the Hải Đăng Đảo Trần began in 1907 and was completed in 1910. The lighthouse played a crucial role in maritime navigation during the French colonial period, serving as an aid to ships navigating the treacherous waters of the Gulf of Tonkin.

Architecture and Materials

The tower stands at a height of 17.7 meters (58.4 feet) above sea level, with a focal height of approximately 30 meters (98.4 feet). The lighthouse is constructed from stone and features a distinctive octagonal shape, characteristic of many French colonial-era lighthouses.

Light Characteristics

The Hải Đăng Đảo Trần emits a fixed red light, visible up to 20 nautical miles (37 kilometers) out to sea. The light pattern is reported to be a steady flash every 10 seconds.

Current Status

The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since the mid-20th century. In recent years, the structure has undergone restoration work to ensure its continued operation and preservation for future generations.

The Hải Đăng Đảo Trần is situated on Đảo Trần, approximately 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) off the coast of Cô Tô Island. The island can be accessed by ferry from Cô Tô Town, which is connected to the mainland via a bridge.
