History

Architecture

The Hải Đăng Hòn Bài stands at an impressive height of 25 meters (82 feet) above sea level, with a focal height of 30 meters (98 feet). The lighthouse is constructed from reinforced concrete and features a distinctive cylindrical shape. The tower is topped with a lantern room that houses the light source.

Light Characteristics

The lighthouse emits a fixed red light, visible up to 20 nautical miles (37 kilometers) out to sea. The light pattern is a steady flash every 10 seconds.

Current Status

The Hải Đăng Hòn Bài is currently an active aid to navigation, although it has been automated since the 1990s. In recent years, the lighthouse has undergone restoration work to ensure its continued operation and maintenance.

Location and Accessibility

Hòn Bài Island is located in Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam, approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) east of the city of Cát Bà. The island can be accessed by ferry from the port town of Vân Đồn, which is about an hour's journey from Hanoi.

Heritage Status

The Hải Đăng Hòn Bài was designated as a National Historical and Cultural Landmark in 2001 by the Vietnamese government.

Notable Historical Events
