History

Architecture

The Hải Đăng Hạ Long is constructed from limestone and features a traditional French colonial-style design. The tower stands at 30 meters (98 feet) tall, while the focal height of the light is approximately 40 meters (131 feet). The lighthouse was equipped with a first-order Fresnel lens, which produced a beam that could be seen up to 20 nautical miles away.

Current Status

The Hải Đăng Hạ Long ceased to be an active aid to navigation in 1993, following the construction of modern lighthouses on the bay. Today, the lighthouse is no longer operational and has been converted into a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into Vietnam's maritime history.

The Hải Đăng Hạ Long is located on Hạ Long Bay, approximately 178 kilometers (111 miles) east of Hà Nội. The lighthouse can be accessed via the coastal road that runs along the bay, and there are several parking areas available near the site.
